The Passing World
This collection is a study of human impermanence.
Capturing the brief, quiet, or mundane moments of souls in transit against the backdrop of natural landscapes, enduring structures and massive cities.

01
Devotion in Hanoi
Ho Tay Lake, Hanoi, Vietnam – 2012
A study in focus and faith. This frame isolates three women in a moment of intense prayer, highlighting the deep, textural stories etched into their expressions. The old lady in the foreground chanting very energetically and pumping her fists. The book balanced on the top of the head of her companion serves as a focal counterpoint of stillness—a literal and metaphorical small world of individual concentration within the collective ritual of the temple.

02
The Path to the Sanctuary
Vat Phou, Champasak, Laos - 2025
The ancient country of Champa once covered a huge area across Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam but is now reduced to a region of southern Laos. The photo captures three monks making their way through the complex and up to the main temple at Vat Phou. I picked out the monks in colour to illustrate the separation of the living world from the ancient world and make the monks look like they are passing through a ghost-like, frozen history.

03
The Silent Watcher
Cape Otway, Victoria, Australia - 2019
On the wind-swept peninsula of Cape Otway, the wild Southern Ocean meets the ancient eucalyptus forests. This candid portrait captures a moment of mutual curiosity: a wild koala, perched high above the blustery coastal track, peering down with quiet, bemused interest at the world below. The mono palette emphasizes the grit of the bark and the depth of the animal's expression, framing a rare encounter where the observer becomes the subject.

Running the tracks
Puno, Peru – 2016
After 10 hours across the Andean altiplano, the train from Cusco makes its way through Puno. For most of the day market stalls cover the train tracks, only moving to let the train through. This image isolates a human-scale interaction at the train's slow arrival, focusing on the energy of the two local girls running behind the train. Their nimble forms intercept the rigid, symmetry of the track, turning a moment of industrial transit into a lively narrative of joy and connection.
Optical Metrics: 190mm f6 1/160 ISO 800

05
The Knife Grinder (El Afilador)
Oaxaca, Mexico - 2025
This frame captures the specialized ingenuity of the afilador, who has transformed his transportation into his street workshop. The monochrome treatment enables a focus on the mechanical textures and the intense concentration of the craftsman. It is a study of the enduring, manual rhythms that persist in the old heart of a modern city. Oaxaca, together with the nearby archeological site of Monte Albán, is an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Optical Metrics: 89mm f4 1/400 ISO 100

06
The Crimson Flight
Atacama Desert, Chile - 2023
A study in horizontal layers. High in the Atacama Desert, a line of flamingos cuts across the frame in perfect synchronisation. This composition explores the contrast between the frozen, purple peaks of the Andes volcanoes and the kinetic energy of life in flight. The vastness of the salt flats is defined by a single, fleeting streak of pink. The Atacama Desert is the driest nonpolar desert in the world, but it is not entirely lifeless.
Optical Metrics: 300mm F7.1 1/1250 ISO200

07
Khymer Village Girl
Oudomxay Province, North Laos – 2024
This is a study in texture and expression. The hand-woven backdrop provides a neutral, rhythmic stage for the girl’s steady gaze. This composition highlights the fragility and resilience of village life, isolating a single figure against a world of wood, dust, and daily routine. It is a candid reflection on the universal experience of childhood, albeit one lived in severe poverty. These children don’t appear to have much future outside the community they were born into.
Optical Metrics: 91mm f7.1 1/125 ISO 100

08
Rapto De Europa
Plaza Botega, Medellin, Columbia – 2025
In the heart of MedellÃn’s transformation lies Plaza Botero, home to twenty-three monumental sculptures by the city's most famous artistic son. This frame captures 'Rapto De Europa' as part of the living city. The visual irony of the oversized bronze figure looking resolutely in one direction, while a local man leans against the plinth, gazing vacantly in the other. The epic scale of art meets the quiet, bored reality of an afternoon in the city

09
Stripes and Umbrellas
Kerala Backwaters, India – 2026
A moment on the Kerala Backwaters that feels more like a canvas than a coastline. This shot utilizes a flattened, graphic perspective—horizontal layers of water, road, and striped fencing—to frame a trio of women heading home. The striped backdrop creates a rhythmic, repetitive pattern that underscores the movement of the figures. It has a candid, Hockney-esque nature, when ordinary life takes on a choreographed, high-colour aesthetic
Optical Metrics: 120mm f7.1 1/400 ISO 100

10
Cai Rang floating market
Can Tho, Mekong Delta, Vietnam – 2012
This is a study of motion and moisture on the Mekong Delta. This frame captures a fraction of a second where a passing wake erupts into a wall of spray, momentarily framing the local boatwoman. The pensive face of the woman is almost perched on top of the spray being thrown up as the boat chugs it way down the river.
Optical Metrics: 220mm f6.3 1/640 ISO 200

11
The Sanctuary of the Moon
Isla De La Luna, Lake Titicaca, Bolivia – 2016
High above the deep waters of Lake Titicaca, a solitary figure walks the rugged slopes of an ancient sanctuary. Framed by the permanent, blinding white of the distant Andes, a quiet moment of daily rhythm unfolds within a vast, unyielding landscape.
Optical Metrics: 100mm f11 1/500 ISO 100

12
Free Hugs at Shibuya Crossing
Tokyo, Japan – 2019
One of the world's busiest intersections, Shibuya Crossing can see up to 2,500 people forge across every two minutes. This high-contrast monochrome study captures the paradox of the modern megacity: a vast sea of people, each completely absorbed in their own world and seemingly ignoring those around them. Amidst this collective solitude, a single sign held high at the back of the crowd offers 'free hugs'—a quiet, powerful rebellion against urban anonymity
Optical Metrics: 120mm f8 1/40 ISO 100

13
The Bench
La Paz, Bolivia – 2016
This frame captures a row of pensioners in the high-altitude capital, their varied hats and heavy coats creating a rhythmic silhouette against a neutral urban backdrop. The image highlights the shared moment of a morning pause—a quiet, collective observation of the city moving past them. It is a portrait of endurance and the dignity of the daily wait.
Optical Metrics: 300mm | F7.1 | 1/1250 | ISO200

14
La abuela del pescado frito
Main Market, Cartegana, Columbia – 2025
This frame captures the fried fish seller framed by her workspace, a structure of weathered poles and corrugated iron. I like the contrast between the rough, mounded textures of the fish and the quiet, distant expression of the vendor herself, a silent pillar of the market floor. Her gaze is the true centre of the frame: steady, distant, and entirely indifferent to the lens. It’s an expression of endurance that suggests the market has grown up around her.
