Album Notes
The blues is the foundation of everything I do on a guitar, but Woodstock Road isn't a typical record of blues standards. Wanting to avoid all the headaches of covering other artists, I decided to write a collection of entirely original tunes, occasionally taking the DNA of arrangements I’d built for classic blues tracks and evolving them into new pieces. While my playing is deeply indebted to the peerless eloquence of Clapton, the soul of Otis Rush, and the jaw-dropping proficiency of SRV, my writing is equally shaped by the art-rock and folk landscapes of Bowie, Roxy Music, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, and John Martyn. It’s a blues album, but it lives on a slightly different map.
Listeners will find that the guitar takes center stage here, which is entirely by design. I have a very pragmatic view of my own limited singing capacity—traditional blues requires a vocal power I simply don't possess, so I deliberately kept my voice in the background. By focusing on songwriting and evocative guitar work rather than vocals, Woodstock Road captures my highly personal take on a genre that continues to be foundational to my musical journey.
